The time has come. If the Texas Railroad Commission gives the "go ahead," a natural gas well will be dug at Hensley Field, Dallas Naval Air Station.
Though the Navy has its land at the naval facilities for sale, the city of Dallas owns and has leased city-owned adjoining land-namely Hensley Field.
After all the problems - benzene emissions, polluted wells, the oily, smelly toxic ponds, EXPLOSIONS we've seen to the west and southwest of us, now Dallas will try her luck with natural gas drilling.
It could be now or never...If I were a driller I might think, "Get the gas before EPA further regulates, takes over permits, and won't give me one!"
Undoubtably, the homeowners who bought new or relatively new homes on the Grand Prairie side of Mountain Creek Lake are having second thoughts. What more in terms of pollution can come their way? Oh yeah, a lot! And what benefit, if any, do they receive?
If you live in this area and have any voice in city affairs-whether in Oak Cliff or Grand Prairie-please remember the school children in class and on the playground just two blocks behind the naval weapons/Vought plant area, the students in dorms at DBU, and faithful at the Potter's House. Hensley Field is not as remote as one might first think.
Air needs to be monitored in this area now-very seriously. Water problems will come in time.
