BP has hit a snag in plugging the Gulf oil gusher. A SNAG? A snag implies things are going well, then...a tiny problem. BP has had a problem since the rig exploded.
Now robots commanded by joy stick welding BPians are stabbing around on the ocean floor "looking" for leaks. If it wasn't so tragic, this might sound slightly humorous. Okay-very humorous.
I see this situation in simple terms: the leak is a mile or more below the surface. Nobody can see the leak or reach it. No one really knows exactly what happened, how much oil has or will spill, or OBVIOUSLY how to fix it.
Remember the Beatles song "I'm fixing a hole"? I always had the sense that fixing the hole was futile, as nature and rain would overcome the human whose mind was wandering where rain would go (when the hole ceased to exist). In other words, nature holds firm to her power, and woe to one who thinks he can circumvent nature's ways.
In this war between man and nature, who will win? A ROBOT? A creature that is neither but may save both.
Personally, I believe in the end, nature and her forces will prevail. Dispersing chemicals and siphoning-a process we can understand and assume will work-will help, but the sea will swallow man's error in her own way - and ecosystems will be affected. There's no do-over, BP, which is why it's wrong to fool Mother Nature.
*Of interest Sunday, May 16: Treehhuggers.com has photos of the actual oil leak on the sea floor-real oil gushing from the broken pipe. They report that BP has video stream coming from cameras mounted on subs, but the photos are "proprietory"-kind of like their chemical formulas used in drilling. BP does not want these photos to become iconic representations of their disaster. Keeps the problem and the amount of oil leaking a bit more SECRET.
Also, Rush Limbaugh weighed in with the comment: Oil is as natural as seawater! Yes, but not IN seawater!
*I see FOX NEWS has a fuzzy pic of the leak now. ...This info needs to seep/leak/trickle out to the public.
