My study of Mt. Creek Lake has recently turned to a study of the TCE contaminated aquifer under the Dallas Naval Weapons Facility; and then to learning about a Grand Prairie community which has experienced TCE vapor from its groundwater. This story about GP property/homeowners was carried by the Dallas Morning News last August; and the homeowners have tried to present their case in court this year. Does anyone know the outcome, if the matter is resolved or on-going? (Sadly, I learned that the responsible bomb-making company is bankrupt-so the matter is probably not settled.)
I'm frankly shocked by the destruction by the military/industrial partnership in the Grand Prairie-MCL area. Contamination is more widespread and literally deeper than I imagined; even though attempts have been made to mitigate the damage. That said, I think it's inevitable TCE will continue to bubble up with its noxious vapor. That's the nature of "troubled" underground water...Water flows back and forth underground through various structures, and chemicals-soluable and volatile-are carried right along.
Having read hydrology reports most of the day, I have but two simple thoughts to offer: a hope that GP residents mentioned above will be able to move to a safer neighborhood if they choose; and that we will deeply perceive that damage to the environment hurts, not only health, but the monetary value of our property-no small thing in a world where economic survival is...no small thing. Most people cannot start over when their health and home investment are gone - stolen by a chemical they never knew existed!
