HUNGRY FOR JUSTICE

TEXAS WILDLIFE AND FISHERIES finds that people regularly fish in Mountain Creek Lake.
Our Dallas officials feel these folks should be arrested for violating the fishing ban on the lake. But there's no fence, and hungry people need food. Some may sell fish, who knows? Some may not know what PCBs are, what "toxic" means. People are funny. They think it's ok to find food in nature. You'd think that a great state like Texas would be "into nature" to the max-but, alas, urban Texas lives and dies for big business. I guess that's why we have the jobs, the freeways, the cool stores and amusements. But not everyone has a ticket to the good life, not all are invited to the party...or know the way to get there. Do you think it's a coincidence that most environmental tragedies are in poor areas? The land is less valuable and the residents are less politically astute, as the stereotype goes. Industry can get by with more violations perhaps. So, when you consider the issue of lake cleanup-think about environmental justice for all.
