Wonderful news! A citizens meeting discussing gas drilling in the Oak Cliff area will be convened Aug. 11, 7 pm. at Southwood Methodist Church - 3601 S Ravinia at Southwood Dr..
All Dallas residents are invited and TEXAS SHARON (Wilson) will address the group. Group moderator is Raymond Crawford, leader of Kiestwood Homeowners Assoc, who advertises this event on Facebook. See "Dallas-the Next Gasland?"on FB for more info. News is added almost daily.
I have a feeling this group is just what Oak Cliff needs.
Another effort is underway to unite citizens for the clean up of the old Dixico plant site at 1300 S Polk and the neighboring Cedar Creeks. Testing this site for contaminants will happen soon, I believe; and thorough testing for all known chemicals used at the site is warranted.
If you are interested in being a founding member of the group Citizens for A Clean Oak Cliff, e-mail me at raking26@yahoo.com.
Perhaps one day citizens concerned about Dixico and citizens standing up for a drilling moratorium (or strong drilling regulations) will comprise one strong group
advocating environmental health and clean up for Oak Cliff.
Remember, Oak Cliff is an old area of Dallas. Zoning laws have not always been protective of residents, creeks and waterways have not been protected, and we have been left with much environmental damage from industry and the military.
For Oak Cliff to thrive, the community must not only update and add to local amenities-but demand the land and water be a clean foundation for building the future. Frankly, we have a lot of catching up to do, thanks to lax Texas laws which have allowed business to have a field day with our shared environment.
So, e-mail me now or find Raymond on FB before you forget!
THANKS OC friends.
