I read the news today...oh, boy! The oil companies now have their long-awaited opportunity to get Iraqi oil under "favorable terms" though the government may be weak. I'll bet it is. No surprise there.
Yes, even the weak Iraqi government can make a deal that will stick, assuring the companies of their precious commodity (sigh of relief...)
Our war in Iraq was and is about oil. Oh, it may have been somewhat about suspected WMDs and it was, of course, about a dictator we finally decided to get rid of. But what brought long-simmering issues to confrontation? The O-word, and I don't mean Obama.
So, what does that mean for future US energy use - just when we've crushed our clunkers and drilled to hell and back for natural gas? Will we decrease oil use for environmental reasons and not because of cost?
Back to the news courtesy of Bloomberg: Exxon and Shell are making the scene in Iraq
in line for a contract. That's all we know. Neither comments on any POLITCAL matter.
And, it's all political...
Forgive me if I don't discuss what actually happened to soldiers and civilians on both sides during the Iraq conflict. I can't go there...but somebody should.
