OVER 90 MILLION? NO THANKS!

On the Internet last night, I found a fascinating list of military contaminated sites that would cost over 90 million EACH to remediate (and this was in 2001 dollars). Our Dallas Naval Air Station made the list! In comparison to Lowry AF base in Colorado, which has radioactive waste, Dallas NAS had over TWICE the number of sites needing remediation (and I don't know if this included NWIRP-the naval weapons facility). So, I reason, this is not just some small local problem that is too insignificant to address. When you think about the over 90 million, can you see see why the Navy would break its promise to Dallas? From this same public govt document available on-line, I see the Navy in 2001 had spent about $100,000 a piece on our Dallas NAS and Colorado's Lowry AF base. 90 million...0ne-hundred thousand... Hmmm-enormous difference?
The best thing the military could do now is to excel in understanding its unique chemical contamination problems, and oversee the clean up themselves, with the results being approved by EPA and local city representatives. In other words, if they can't afford to pay an outside corp to do the work, find another way. But backing out of an agreement and leaving TCE in the ground (which could be remediated as was planned) is not acceptable.
