Civil Rights and the Environment: What BP/Halli B Are Teaching Us

We may need a present day ENVIRONMENTAL MOVEMENT similar to the Civil Rights movement of the 1960-where leaders and citizens band together to distinguish right from wrong (in this scenario the moral issues would be unsafe drilling and other polluting activities) outlining what Americans and world citizens will and will not accept.
Martin Luther King basically proclaimed that mankind must move from what is unfair to what is fair-and that truth (and love) will ultimately win!
I recognize that air, water, and ecosystems are very different from human beings and racial equality; yet my focus in on peaceful change, fairness, and quality of life for all people-not just wealthy corporate guys in high-rises and hotels. The young, the old, the frail, the poor-all have a right to breathe clean air in the park and drink untainted water. Inalienable right in my book...
To me, a restored environment is much more a matter of justice and survival than politics. It is a most logical benefit from our cumulative knowledge and research which the human family could and should enjoy. In other words: What is science for if not to heal the wounds of a flawed, industrial world?
The Gulf oil spill may be just the reality picture we can understand and embrace.
Let's not let men's lives and all that oil be wasted-given for nothing.
I hear that Congress is ready to lower the boom on drilling-in a truth-seeking, loving way, of course. And it's about time.
