The Green Party is Not Afraid!

Today I'm taking a look at the platform of the Green Party. It is likely way too liberal for me in economics and education, BUT I hear its members advocate removing the govt's immunity for prosecution when it - usually in the form of the military-pollutes our land. Can you imagine citizens being able to sue the govt for damages that come from contaminated water, ruined aquifers, vapors in the air from TCE plumes, etc? The line forms to the left....
Though suing our govt is a lot like suing ourselves-the taxpayer-the idea sounds strangely just from the perspective of the person suffering illness or a family having lost a loved one.
What will it take to wake up the powerful and make them take notice that their chemical dumping is not worth your life or mine???
Oh, one might argue that we are not going to die from toxic chemicals in groundwater and air; perhaps not, but the negative effect is cumulative and affects vulnerable people-and everyone, to some degree. Personally, I believe after studying water problems in cities and rural drilling areas that the groundwater in this country is much more contaminated-make that ruined-than we are told. Use of well water is becoming infrequent-why?
When one thinks about the earth as a planet with a water system/cycle-whereby no more water is ever produced and that water from the atmosphere turns into water in the ground, then returns once more to the atmosphere, with all water interacting; this is SOBERING. People who populate this planet will have to treat and remediate water forever, and with what ultimate success?
Who thinks of generations to come? I mean really: who thinks about it?

Postscript: Notice natural gas drilling may take place courtesy of XTO Corp across from Grapevine High School? What was I just saying about ruined water and, of course, benzene -toluene -laden air? It could be coming to the very heart of your community; and the only government that will protect is your local government responding to the outcries of citizens.
Can you imagine kids out running track or marching in the band on the field with drilling chemicals permeating the air? What a lawsuit waiting to happen.
