NO GROUNDWATER CLEAN UP: DALLAS NAVAL AIR STATION

THE CARCINOGENIC TCE PLUMES are to be left alone at the old Dallas Naval Air Station - no remediation, no repair of any groundwater and no air monitoring of buildings on top of plumes. Go to the Region 6 EPA website and see that the agreement was changed Jan 2009 and Sept 2009.
THIS IS APPALLING! The Navy is cleaning up on both US coasts, and leaving Dallas with legacy pollutants to hold as our legacy! Dallasites, please speak to the mayor and your Congressmen.
Once again, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has failed to protect the people of Texas and the future of Oak Cliff/Grand Prairie. If you are located in the Mountain Creek Lake area, this particularly affects you.
How did this happen? In stages. First, the Navy agreed to clean up the naval station but not the lake. Then after a very "cost effective" effort, the Navy said they'd not clean up all the naval weapons facility - they'd just concentrate on the "hot spots." Then they needed years for groundwater clean up. Now-NO GROUNDWATER CLEAN UP! Whenever citizens failed to demand a good, thorough fulfillment of commitment, the Navy decreased its efforts and expenditures. As I've said before (and as my teachers have told me repeatedly), we get what we demand!
This situation involving groundwater and the entire ruined lake, in my opinion, is unfair and should not be tolerated; but it did not happen overnight. If anyone has any ideas about what could be done at this point, I'd love to hear them.
