THE PLAN OF LAST RESORT

"Natural Attenuation" is the plan for Mountain Creek Lake. It's the state's preferred cure for what ails us. I recently learned that EPA does not like this remedy of last resort unless no other COST EFFECTIVE plan will work.
Three main ideas here...
1. Natural attenuation: means nature will eventually dilute toxins in the lake or relocate them or facilitate their change of form (but the toxins don't go away).
2. Nothing else worked: If nothing worked, the damage must be extensive.
Could we find out what was attempted?
3. Nothing worked that was cost effective. How would you define "cost effective"? Maybe "worth it;" inexpensive enough, a good deal given the situation, surprisingly cheap. Were there more expensive options that might have worked? We don't know!

As I write, my mind is imaging billions of dollars of ships and planes bought by the Navy; and I wonder how cost effective they are...possibly being destroyed in war in an instant. But, they are considered necessary, whatever they cost. Then I think about Dallas and picture land and water that can last forever and nurture generations. How do you put a price tag on what you and yours may need to survive and live healthy lives? "Cost effective" is an ironic term. If clean-up isn't effective, we citizens bear the cost.
